Old-English
Saanens is a small herd of cute white goats
located in Southern California on a 5 acre farm in Chino
Hills. Last year was rough with the loss of several
wonderful old does., but with excellent young does maturing
well and the excitement of the 2009 kid crop, show season,
LA, DHIR testing, and Nationals in Sacramento the future
looks great.
In
2007, we traveled to Wyoming ADGA National show. It
was an amazing experience topped off with SCGH Old-English
Tatiana being 1st place 3 year old and Best Saanen
Udder and ++*B Old-English Jacks Son named Premier
Saanen Sire! Old English Xotica was 1st Senior Kid,
in Jr. Get of Sire Old English Clinton (owned/shown
by Companeros Dairy) received 1st place and Old English
Jack's Son was 2nd. Several other does/doelings placed
very well as did the does in the group classes. It
is especially rewarding when OE animals go to other
herds and work out well.
A
month later in August, we traveled to the California
State Fair/District VIII Specialty show in Sacramento.
GCH Old-English Irish Lilly won the aged doe class
and went on to be California State and District VIII
Grand Champion and Lilly, with her daughter SGCH OE
Tatiana also won the dam and daughter class. It was
a wonderful close to Lillys 8-year show career.
In
2008, OE does continue to compete well in ADGA shows
with 9 GCH, 4 RGCH, 6 BIS and multiple wins in group
classes. Highlighted with SGCH OE Tatiana being Antelope
Valley/District VIII Champion doe. Also, with encouragement
from judges, appraisers and fellow breeders I submitted
two Spotlight Sale applications for consideration.
BOTH kids were accepted. OE Kojack (++*B OE Jacks
Son x GCH OE Irish Lilly *2) has gone to Jennifer
Bice at Companeros Dairy and OE Stand Pat (SG*B Cherrypines
Stand Out x SCGH OE Tatiana *3) is in New Mexico at
Sandhill Child Development Center managed by Ralph
Zimmerman, DVM. I am thankful both kids are in programs
that will give them the opportunity to reach their
potential, and have wonderful care.
Once
again, I participated in the ADGAs LA program.
The highlights of the 2008 herd appraised were SCGH
Tatiana EEEE 92, her twin GCH OE Tilly EEEE 91, GCH
Cherrypines Hooter EVEE 90 and first fresheners OE
Reasons Wabuska VEEV 89, GCH OE Wild Flower
EEEE 89 and OE EV Whitney EEEV 88.
I
am grateful for my good friends and mentors for their
guidance and encouragement over the last 17 year of
the Old-English adventure. Linda Colquitt (Colquitts
and Eders), Joyce Lazarro (Saanendoah) and Judy
Morrison (Cherrypines Saanens) have always been available
for the joyful times and tears. A special thanks to
Loretta Cisneros on whom I depend. It is comforting
to have complete confidence in her ability to care
for the herd when needed and being on 24-hour call
for unexpected events. I am truly blessed to have
these ladies in my life.
2009
will be the first year OE does will be on DHIR testing.
I have participated in one day tests and many of the
does have their stars. I am looking forward to the
information available through the DHIR testing results.
The NSBA web site has information 1999 forward on
One Day milk test, and District VIII results. If interested
you can find Old English animals on their web site.
I
offer, for your consideration, the following information
and list of kids due this year. All kids are separated
from the does at birth and raised on a CAE prevention
program. I CAE test every year with WSU, again this
year (February 2009) all Old-English bucks and does
are negative.
